' Princess Palm, Huricane Palm '
[ Palmae ]
[ Reunion Island ]
A tall growing, attractive palm with a prominent, pale crownshaft and swollen trunk base. With its elegant, feather-shaped leaves, it makes an attractive pot plant when young. It grows fast given a sunny position and adequate water and feed, and will succeed in tropical, subtropical, and some warm temperate areas. The Hurricane Palm can also take considerable coastal exposure and strong winds.

Cultivation Ornamental Value: high. Care: average. Speed of Growth: normal. I am growing this palm at Tauranga New Zealand, a warm temperate climate. It is doing well and seems unaffected by short duration cool periods. It is growing outside in volcanic soil. It is five years old and has been outside three years. It is growing near the coast and rainfall here is regular. It responds to light fertilizing. New Zealand[Tauranga] Hancox [alanhancox@kinect.co.nz] 2015-06-21
